for High School and Middle School Educators in El Paso and Teller County

Presented by: Colorado College and the Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project

What: Training in strategies to engage students: in poetry, to use poetry in support of English curriculum educational goals, and to align with State Standards

Who: 30 region High School/Middle School Educators

Where:  Colorado College’s Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center (newly opened and designed by Antoine Predock)

When: Saturday September 27, 2008 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM

Cost: $60 (Late registration, after 8/31, is $75)

  • The Status of Teaching Poetry Today – Presentation by Davis Mason (Colorado College English Department and Aaron Anstett)
  • Getting students engaged in poetry: Ideas and strategies – Panel with audience participation
  • Experiencing forms of poetry: three different small group sessions to experience local poets willing to make school appearances
  • "Acing" the CSAP: educational content standards for the CSAP and strategies for test success on poetry questions
