Application Directions and Guidelines

GENERAL DIRECTIONS FOR AN APPLICATION

  1. Cover Page: Include your name, full-time address, telephone numbers, and e-mail address.
  2. Résumé: Include a list of your publications, selected performances/readings, your work experience, various awards, your experience with poetry in this and other communities, and any other information relevant to the position.
  3. Sample poems: Please include five poems (published or unpublished), not to exceed 10 pages.
  4. Describe your two-year vision for the position of Pikes Peak Poet Laureate: The Poet Laureate is expected to a) participate in a limited number of specific community events, such as workshops, readings, public ceremonies, etc., and b) help design and complete a major community-wide project that both inspires and celebrates poetry and connects our community to poetry and poets. Please describe (in under 1,000 words) what you would like to accomplish in your two-year term as Pikes Peak Poet Laureate, with particular emphasis on your ideas for a major project.
  5. References: Provide a list of names and contact information of three people we may contact with regard to your work.
  6. Deadline for submission: All applications must be received by March 3, 2012.
  7. Interview: Finalists will be contacted by the selection committee for an interview. Please indicate any time in March 2010 when you would not be available for an interview.

GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION OF THE PIKES PEAK POET LAUREATE:

  1. The Laureate will serve a two-year term from April 2012 and ending in April 2014.
  2. Applicants should be experienced, published poets with a recognized body of work.
  3. Applicants must be willing to appear at and support between six and 10 events per year and also provide support for a major community-wide poetry project.
  4. Applicants must be comfortable making public presentations and working to assist in celebrating and inspiring poetry in our community.
  5. Applicants must reside or work full-time in El Paso or Teller counties.
